A Sarah Hurst massage is more than just a fluffy rubdown. Sarah is trained in Holistic Medical Massage through Jing advanced massage training, and therefore incorporates remedial techniques to reduce specific pain problems.
Sarah uses a ‘listening touch’ and communication to help identify problem areas and then treat them using a variety of techniques including Swedish massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, deep tissue and stretching. The massage is performed slowly and deeply with intent, and working within your own tolerance levels.
Trigger Point Therapy
There is a growing body of evidence that many pain conditions are actually caused by trigger points, but what is a trigger point? A trigger point is a knot within a tight muscle that hurts when pressed and can cause pain somewhere else on the body. Trigger points vary in size, from the area of a pea to the size of a golf ball.
Trigger points are responsible for a vast number of pain related symtoms, upper and lower back pain, Carpel tunnel syndrome, neck pain, migraine and many many more problems!
Trigger Point therapy is always followed by stretching of the muscle
Myofascial Release
The fascia of the body is the tough connective tissue that holds us together. Fascia has been described as a three dimensional body stocking that envelopes each and every structure of the body; the tiniest nerve has its own fascial sheath, or envelope as does the largest bone. About half of the muscular attachements of the body are to fascia so that muscle tone or state of contraction have a lot to do with how tight or loose the fascial sheaths are.
MFR techniques aim to restore mobility in the fascia and soften connective tissue that has become rigid. All these modalitites view a healthy fascial system as integral to good health.
Each treatment at Sarah Hurst is tailor made for the client and their needs at that time, even if you purely want to relax and have no pain to treat.
